Crypto Payment Gateway Fees Explained: What You Actually Pay

Guides

The fees you pay to accept crypto, how gateways set them, published rates side by side, and ways to pay less.

How much does it cost to accept crypto payments?

Accepting crypto can cost three kinds of fee: the gateway's processing fee, the network fee to move the coins, and conversion and withdrawal fees if you want fiat. Published standard processing rates on BitPay's, CoinGate's and BlockBee's pricing pages, checked on 7 October 2026, range from 1% (CoinGate, BlockBee) to 2% + $0.25 (BitPay, below $500,000 a month). BlockBee's rate falls to 0.25% with volume. Network, conversion and withdrawal fees can come on top, so work out the total for a typical month of your own orders.

What does BlockBee charge?

BlockBee charges a percentage of each payment, set by your volume over the previous 30 days, with deposits and payouts counted together. The volume is recalculated every day at 00:00 UTC. Your industry's risk tier also affects the rate, and there are no setup, monthly or hidden fees. BlockBee's API listed these tiers on 7 October 2026:

30-day volume Fee
$0+ 1%
$10,000+ 0.9%
$25,000+ 0.85%
$50,000+ 0.8%
$100,000+ 0.75%
$250,000+ 0.7%
$500,000+ 0.65%
$1,000,000+ 0.6%
$2,500,000+ 0.5%
$5,000,000+ 0.4%
$10,000,000+ 0.3%
$25,000,000+ 0.25%

Payout fees start at 0.5% and fall with volume. Network fees are extra. To see your own rate, use the fee calculator; for each coin's minimum payment and estimated network fee, see the cryptocurrencies page, which lists 105 assets on 13 networks.

What processing fees do crypto gateways charge?

BitPay's and CoinGate's pricing pages, checked on 7 October 2026, list the rates below. Check five things:

  • The percentage. BlockBee starts at 1%; CoinGate charges 1% on Standard; BitPay starts at 2% + $0.25.
  • A fixed fee per payment. BitPay's published rates add 25¢ per transaction. That is 2.5% of a $10 order but 0.25% of a $100 one.
  • Volume tiers. BitPay's rate falls to 1% + $0.25 from $1,000,000 a month; BlockBee's falls to 0.25% from $25,000,000 over 30 days.
  • Risk. BitPay's pricing page notes higher fees for high-risk industries; BlockBee's rate depends on your industry's risk tier.
  • Minimum fees. At BlockBee, on the Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash networks a minimum of 546 satoshis applies because of the dust threshold (5,460 litoshis on Litecoin); every other coin in BlockBee's API has a minimum fee of 0.
Gateway Standard processing fee Checked
BitPay 2% + $0.25 below $500,000 a month; 1.5% + $0.25 to $999,999; 1% + $0.25 from $1,000,000 7 Oct 2026
CoinGate 1% on Standard; custom on Enterprise 7 Oct 2026
BlockBee 1%, falling to 0.25% with 30-day volume 7 Oct 2026

Some gateways do not list a rate on their pages. Cryptopay's gateway-page FAQ, checked on 7 October 2026, asks merchants to contact its sales team for details of fees and commissions. Ask for a written quote that covers every fee below.

What are network fees, and who pays them?

Network fees are paid to the blockchain, not the gateway. Cryptopay's accept-page FAQ, checked on 7 October 2026, says they "are determined by the blockchain, not Cryptopay". BlockBee's cryptocurrencies page shows an estimated network fee for each coin and network (for one output address), updated every 24 hours, and warns that actual values may vary with network congestion. The same coin can cost different amounts to move on different networks.

How the fee reaches you depends on how the gateway pays you:

  • If it forwards each on-chain payment to your wallet, as BlockBee does, each forward costs a network fee, deducted from the payment by default.
  • If it keeps a balance for you, as CoinGate does (its pricing page, checked on 7 October 2026, refers to "your CoinGate account balance"), check its withdrawal fees and minimums and whether network fees apply; the next section shows CoinGate's.

What do conversion and withdrawal cost?

If you want fiat, check:

  • the conversion fee;
  • the withdrawal fee for bank transfers, which may differ for SEPA and SWIFT;
  • any minimum withdrawal.

CoinGate's pricing page, checked on 7 October 2026, lists crypto and SEPA withdrawals as free (50 EUR minimum amount) and, on its Standard plan, a 1% fee on manual conversions (automatic checkout conversions are excluded) and SWIFT at 0.50% (50 EUR minimum fee).

BlockBee pays out in crypto, not in fiat. If you convert at an exchange afterwards, add any fees the exchange charges to your total.

What other costs should you check?

  • Payouts to sellers, affiliates or customers. CoinGate's pricing page, checked on 7 October 2026, lists 0.50 EUR + 0.5% on Standard. See how marketplaces pay sellers in crypto.
  • Refunds. The same page lists 0.25 EUR per refund on Standard, plus 0.1% only when the refunded currency differs from the currency used to issue the refund.
  • Minimum payments. With BlockBee, a payment below the coin's minimum is disregarded and cannot be recovered; display each coin's minimum where customers choose how to pay.

How do you work out the total cost?

Add the three parts for a typical month:

Total cost = processing fees + network fees + conversion and withdrawal fees.

Fill in:

  • Processing fees: add the charge for each payment at the rate that applied when it was processed, plus any fixed per-payment charge. A single volume × rate sum works only if one rate applies all month.
  • Network fees: the number of forwards or withdrawals × the current estimate for each network you use. BlockBee's estimates are for one output address, and without prepaid fees BlockBee's own fee goes out in a second transaction, so allow for it.
  • Conversion and withdrawal fees: the amount you convert × the conversion fee, plus the fee for each withdrawal (flat or a percentage, with any minimum fee).

How much is BlockBee's fee on a $50 or a $20 payment?

At BlockBee's published 1% starting rate:

  • $50 in Bitcoin: 1% is $0.50.
  • $20 in USDT on Polygon: 1% is $0.20. BlockBee's API listed the minimum fee for USDT on Polygon as 0 on 7 October 2026.

The network fee to forward each on-chain payment comes on top. On some networks, such as Tron, the network fee on a small payment can be larger than BlockBee's fee; check the estimator.

How can you pay less?

  • Pick cheaper networks. Use the network fee estimator and offer coins on low-cost networks.
  • Prepay BlockBee's fee. With prepaid fees, credits (1 credit = 1 USD) cover BlockBee's fee, which avoids an extra transaction per on-chain payment and can save up to 50% on blockchain fees. Credits are kept per profile, and unused credits are not refunded.
  • Pass fees to customers. In Payment Settings you can add BlockBee's fee, an estimate of the network fee, or both to the customer's total. See how it works.
  • Grow into the volume tiers. Payouts count towards your 30-day volume too.

Frequently asked questions

What is a normal crypto payment gateway fee?

Of the published standard rates on BitPay's, CoinGate's and BlockBee's pricing pages, checked on 7 October 2026, the lowest is 1% (CoinGate and BlockBee) and the highest is 2% + $0.25 (BitPay, below $500,000 a month).

Who pays the network fee?

Is there a minimum fee on small Bitcoin payments?

On the Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash networks a minimum of 546 satoshis applies because of the dust threshold (5,460 litoshis on Litecoin); every other coin in BlockBee's API has a minimum fee of 0.

Are there monthly fees with BlockBee?

No. BlockBee lists no setup, monthly or hidden fees. You pay per transaction, plus network fees.

Does BlockBee charge for payouts?
